Preschoolers graduate from Over the Rainbow

Graduates of Over the Rainbow Child Care Development Center march in to

ROCKINGHAM — In an outdoor service, Over the Rainbow Child Development Center graduated its first Preschool class Saturday morning.

The preschoolers marched in to “Pomp and Circumstance” as proud family members watched on.

With the theme of “Rising Stars of Tomorrow,” the new grads were excited to show what they had learned this past year as they counted from 1 to 10 in English and Spanish, sang “If You’re Happy and You Know It,“, recited “One, Two, Buckle My Shoe,” ”Hickory Dickory Dock,” and  “The Itsy Bitsy Spider.”

Each grad shared what they learned with many commenting that they had learned their numbers and their ABCs, while others cited valuable lessons as “be good not bad,” ”no climbing on the wall,” and “don’t put grass in your hair.”

Alison Stubbs, Sumaya Webster, and April Wall taught the class of 14 preschoolers for the 2020-2021 school year.

The graduates were: Amir Alsbrook, Hallie Benoit, Khloe Crumpton, Delilah Lampley, Kazariyah McBride, Korbyn McIver-Knox, Peyton McMillan, Hansel Morgan, HaShawn Nicholson, Arianna Nuttall, Dimitri Shaw and Arianna Wynder. Jahmil Douglas, Dimitri Shaw and Tyking Watson were not in attendance.

Iris McCrae, one of the owners and operators of Over the Rainbow, expressed pride in the graduates’ preparedness for Kindergarten.

McCrae and her husband, Robert, opened Over the Rainbow in January of 2019 as the county’s only 24-hour daycare, to support parents working second and third shifts.
