PINEHURST— Southern Pines Women’s Health Center, a FirstHealth clinic, has welcomed a new obstetrics and gynecology provider to its team of OB/GYNs.
Caleb Pearce, M.D., started seeing patients on Aug. 9 in the Raeford and Southern Pines clinics.
Dr. Pearce said he was fascinated with medicine from a young age but did not choose OB/GYN until his third year of medical school.
“My junior year of high school my father was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor and after supporting him through his treatments, I knew I was destined to work in the medical field,” he said. “I feel blessed to work in this specialty, which allows me to help bring life into the world and perform amazing, life-changing surgeries.”
Dr. Pearce earned his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in 2017, and recently completed an OB/GYN residency at Mission Hospital in Asheville, N.C.
He has experience in Enhanced Recovery After Surgery, a quality improvement project to aid patient recovery after hysterectomy, and has worked on numerous volunteer and research projects.
John Byron, M.D., OB/GYN, at SPWHC said Dr. Pearce brings years of research and work experience to the clinic.
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Pearce to the team,” Dr. Byron said. “His compassion for patients and dedication to improving care will be an asset in our office.”
Originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he visited Pinehurst as a child to attend golf tournaments with his family and returned to the area during residency. “I fell in love with the area and it’s rich history. I knew this was where I wanted to practice and raise a family,” he said.
Outside of work, Dr. Pearce enjoys golf, spoken word poetry, finance, and spending time with his wife and two labradoodles.
