ROCKINGHAM — FirstHealth of the Carolinas Family Medicine has welcomed two new providers to its Richmond location.
Samantha Ammons, FNP, and Megan Moore, AGNP, will begin seeing patients on Oct. 3 at the Rockingham office located at 921 S. Long Dr., Suite 101. FirstHealth Family Medicine offers care to all ages, from babies to grandparents, by appointment. Same-day appointments are available for acute-illnesses. Rockingham office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to noon on Fridays.
Ammons earned her Master of Science in Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner from Duke University in August. She earned her B.S. in nursing from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2018 and was able to utilize the FirstHealth tuition reimbursement program for portions of her school expenses.
She started her nursing career at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in 2015 as a nursing assistant in the float pool while working toward her associate degree. Ammons has since worked as an emergency department nurse at both MRH–Richmond and MRH–Montgomery.
Originally from Ellerbe, North Carolina, she now lives in Union County and said she is happy to continue her career with FirstHealth and looks forward to working closer to her hometown.
“I’m really excited to be going into family care,” she said. “Especially in Richmond County, where a lot of my family still lives. I look forward to having a real connection with my patients, and to be able to start with children and see them all the way through to adulthood.”
Moore recently earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice–Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She earned her B.S. in nursing from Winston-Salem University. Prior to her new role, she worked as an R.N. in the intermediate surgical stepdown unit at MRH in Pinehurst. Moore also has experience in behavioral health and urgent care nursing.
Also a native of Richmond County, Moore said she is enthusiastic about the flourishing community and humbled to serve Richmond residents alongside clinic staff. She said her family inspired her interest in health care, and she is grateful that inspiration has now come full circle.
“I grew up surrounded by people in professions involved with helping others, including firefighters, police officers, nurses and teachers,” she said. “I knew I was meant to help others and was attracted to nursing for the ability to not only learn about the disease process, diagnosis and treatment plan, but also the ability to offer patient education.”
In her spare time, Moore enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, crafting, riding motorcycles and gardening.
Ammons is a mountain biking enthusiast and enjoys spending time with her husband and their two-year-old daughter. She was accepted into Duke University’s Doctor of Nursing Practice and plans to pursue her doctorate in the future.
