ROCKINGHAM — This year at Richmond Senior High School, the Senate has decided to bring back Rockin’ for a Reason — but with a new twist: “Walking for a Reason.”
Rockin’ for a Reason was created in 2011 in support of Jonathan Hernandez, who tragically lost his battle with cancer in 2018.
Over the years, the fundraiser has been used to help children in need at Richmond Senior, fund scholarships, and provide donations to many local groups in Richmond County.
Rockin’ for a Reason began as an overnight event held in the Raider Cafeteria. This year, due to COVID-19, the 2021-2022 Senate decided to make it an outside event held at Raider Stadium, similar to Relay for Life but with a new meaning.
“Walking for a Reason is a reinvention of the fundraiser known as Rockin’ for a Reason,” said RSHS senior Anna Blair. “Instead of rocking all night long, we will be walking around the track, playing games, and socializing. The proceeds go toward the Walking for a Reason Foundation, which helps fellow Richmond students in need.”
Tickets are $40 and include a T-shirt, pizza, drinks, games, and a donation to Walking for a Reason.
The sign-up date has been extended to March 28. The event will take place from 6 p.m.-midnight April 1.
This event is for Richmond Senior High School students and Ninth Grade Academy Beta members.
Also, no worries if you aren’t a big walker, you are only required to walk four laps.
