Fundraiser, cornhole tournament to benefit children of Hamlet woman who died of cancer

ROCKINGHAM — A fundraiser scheduled for Saturday will raise money to go into a trust for the children of a recent local cancer victim.

The benefit is in memory of Cindy Locklear, who passed away April 4 of colon cancer and left behind a daughter and son.

Locklear’s obituary, published by the RO on April 6 reads in part:

“Cindy was a hardworking, fun-loving mother of two. Her daughter and son were the center of her world. Her family was always her top priority, whether it was spending time with her children, daily group chats between her brothers and sisters, or spending time with her nieces and nephews, she was always looking out for her family. Cindy was most famous for her delicious pecan pies during the holidays, with Christmas being her favorite. Her favorite Christmas tradition of making household baskets was passed down to her by her Mama.”

The fundraiser, slated to start at 10 a.m. at the Rockingham VFW, will include barbecue, fried and barbecued chicken and hot dog plates; a silent auction; and a 50/50 raffle.

There will also be a cornhole tournament with a team entry fee of $40, with the winning team splitting the pot, according to a flier.

Registration for the tournament starts at 10 a.m. and “bags fly” at 11.
