Raider Band Camp starts next week; students, sponsors sought

The Raider Marching Band participates in the 2019 Veterans Day Parade.

ROCKINGHAM — The upcoming Raider Marching Band members will spend the next two weeks prepping for the 2021 season.

Raider Band Camp is slated to run from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. July 26-Aug-13, with students playing and learning in the band room and on the practice field.

Band Director Edwin Carter says students are still needed to play percussion and front ensemble, according to Randy Stubbs, president of the booster club Raider Band Fans.

Carter was hired as director in September 2019 and has been trying to grow the band, which had 54 members.

Stubbs said some students have already signed up for the camp, which is required for all band students.

There will be a “family night” on Aug. 13 with students putting on an exhibition performance to show parents what they have learned, Stubbs said.

In addition to students, Stubbs added that the booster club is looking for new members — and sponsors.

Money raised by sponsorships will help send the band to competitions, away games and pay for equipment and pre-game meals. There are plans to send the band to a competition at Carowinds this year, Stubbs said.

“We don’t get to do much without sponsors,” he added. “We appreciate them.”

Any students or parents with questions about the camp should contact Carter at edwincarter@richmond.k12.nc.us. Those interested in joining the booster club or providing sponsorships should contact Stubbs at 910-995-8544.
