CHARLOTTE — Today, the American Red Cross of Greater Carolinas will launch a virtual, three-part series happening throughout the month to raise awareness around blood transfusion needs for patients living with sickle cell disease. Blood transfusion is one of the few treatments to help alleviate the pain of this disease. For these patients, the blood donor match is more specific.
Through the NCREDTalk speaker series, the community will learn more about the organization’s efforts to address blood related medical concerns prevalent in black communities, as well as helping mobilize community members to increase blood donations. Partners from Duke Health, Novant Hospital and Piedmont Health Services and Sickle Cell Agency will provide insight to the unique blood transfusion needs of patients living with sickle cell disease.
The Red Cross appreciates the support of its NCRedTalk partners: Duke Health, RTI International, Duke Energy, nCino and Durham Coca-Cola Bottling Company. We are grateful to our partners who stand by our commitment to ensuring blood is available for any patient who may need it, and that the best matched blood is available for patients of all races.
NCRedTalk Speaker Series: Each session will feature speakers and subject matter experts in the fields of blood banking; diversity, equity and inclusion; health care and medical professionals and sickle cell disease advocacy. Speakers include:
